You have to rename it to vmlinux.X.X.X-syms and put it in the /boot directory. Now i'm sure there are scripts for it somewhere, but you can do it old-fashioned way - in my case: > od -A d -t x1 vmlinuz | grep '1f 8b vmlinux not vmlinuz) > > I am running the Oprofile on fedora with kernel-xen 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6xen, as the latest kernel-xen version 2.6.20-1.2948 is very unstable. Any one has ideas? The kernel module loads and creates the expected directories under /dev/oprofile: # ls /dev/oprofile 0 buffer cpu_buffer_size enable 1 buffer_size cpu_type pointer_size backtrace_depth buffer_watershed dump stats There seems to be something But I cannot find documented exactly what file in the linux kernel tree to copy from nor what objcopy options to use.

Why the pipe command "l | grep "1" " get the wrong result?
Subject: Profiling the kernel: getting a working vmlinux Hello All, I have been playing with oprofile a bit and would like to dig into the kernel part of it that I and how should I do? Reserve current settings. opcontrol --vmlinux=/home/vmlinux opcontrol --deinit opcontrol --separate=kernel opcontrol --init opcontrol --reset opcontrol --start The last command (opcontrol --start) is giving the following error.
That is critical for my application tuning that I understand where it spends time in the kernel so please hele me achieving this. Probably for symbols, but that is just my guess. Then just copy the image from the point and decompress it - >dd if=vmlinuz bs=1 skip=24584 | zcat > vmlinux 1450414+0 records in 1450414+0 records out 1450414 bytes (1.5 MB) copied, To get just the image search for the GZ signature - 1f 8b 08 00.
Profiler running. I think i was executing the command in a wrong way. Click to get it now. WEATHER-resistant GFCI's required in bathrooms?
vmlinux not vmlinuz) Indeed I don't know how to extract vmlinux from vmlinuz. his comment is here OK, no problem. Just data. You should be using that file.
My big issue is about how to pass vmlinux to 'opcontrol --vmlinux=3D$myVMlinux'. You should be able to just "cp" or "scp" the file to a place that is visible to the target machine. But there is a problem with the images, because there is no symbol table information in the kernel file despite the fact that it was requested during the "make menuconfig" phase Any clue?
vmlinux not vmlinuz) I've read online that one must use objcopy to produce the file. (Since this is a cross compile I'm using the cross-objcopy). Really? You should be using that file. http://jscience.net/the-specified/the-specified-executable-is-not-a-valid-win32-application.html You seem to have CSS turned off.
